چکیده

We report on the first Green Bank Telescope observations at 427, 820 and 1400 MHz of the newly discovered, highly inclined and relativistic double pulsar binary. We focus on the brief eclipse of PSR J0737−3039A, the faster pulsar at superior conjunction, when it passes behind PSR J0737−3039B. We measure a frequency-averaged eclipse duration of 27.4 ± 1.3 s, or 0.00310 ± 0.00015 in orbital phase. Given the relative transverse velocity of the pulsars at conjunction of 680 km s, this implies that the eclipsing region has size 18,600 km, or 0.063 lt-s. The eclipse duration is independent of frequency to within our measurement uncertainties. We place a 99% confidence upper limit on the absolute value of a frequency power-law index of eclipse duration of 0.46. We detect significant asymmetry in the eclipse. Specifically, eclipse ingress takes 4.0 ± 1.3 times longer than egress. There is evidence that the eclipse lasts longer and is deeper after conjunction. We discuss these results in the context of a model in which the eclipsing material is a shock-heated plasma layer within the slower PSR J0737−3039B’s light cylinder, where the relativistic pressure of the faster pulsar’s wind confines the magnetosphere of the slower pulsar. Se p 20 05 Eclipses and orbital modulations in binary pulsar PSR J 0737 − 3039

Binary radio pulsar system J0737−3039 provides an exceptional opportunity to study innermost structure of pulsar magnetospheres due to very tight orbit, favorable directions of pulsars' rotation and magnetic axes and extremely fortuitous orientation of the orbit. In this system the millisecond pulsar A is eclipsed once per orbit. During eclipse a clear modulation at the 2.77 s period of pulsar ...

Green Bank Telescope Measurement of the Systemic Velocity of the Double Pulsar Binary J0737−3039 and Implications for Its Formation

We report on the measurement at 820and 1400-MHz of orbital modulation of the diffractive scintillation timescale from pulsar A in the double-pulsar system J0737−3039 using the Green Bank Telescope. Fits to this modulation determine the systemic velocity in the plane of the sky to be VISS ≃140.9±6.2kms−1. The parallel and perpendicular components of this velocity with respect to the line of node...

The Double Pulsar System J0737−3039: Modulation of a by B at Eclipse

We have investigated the eclipse of the 23-ms pulsar J0737−3039A by its 2.8-s companion PSR J0737−3039B in the recently discovered double pulsar system using data taken with the Green Bank Telescope at 820 MHz. We find that the pulsed flux density at eclipse is strongly modulated with half the periodicity of the 2.8-s pulsar. The eclipse occurs earlier and is deeper at those rotational phases o...

00 4 On the nature of eclipses in binary pulsar J 0737 - 3039

We consider magnetohydrodynamical interaction between relativistic pulsar wind and static magnetosphere in binary pulsar system PSR J0737-3039. We construct semi-analytical model describing the form of the interface separating the two pulsars. An assumption of vacuum dipole spin down for Pulsar B leads to eclipse duration ten times longer than observed. We discuss possible Pulsar B torque modif...
